DHC Deep Cleansing Oil Review 2024
Have you ever tried or heard about the DHC Deep Cleansing Oil? According to many, it can be said that it’s one of the most hyped products in Japan and approved by many makeup artists for decades. Read more to get to know about this product!
This product is something that my own mother used when she was in her twenties, when she wore much more makeup. She said that no joke, this oil cleanser gets rid of all her makeup and excess residue—leaving absolutely nothing behind.
This DHC Deep Cleansing Oil may be a little bit more expensive than most Japanese oil cleansers, but I know that it has been loved by many over so many years. I am beyond excited to try out this cleansing oil, especially because I’ve heard so much about it, but also to see how it would react with my dry and sensitive skin.
About DHC
DHC is a Japanese beauty brand that has been known among millions of people around the world. What originally began as an educational translation company in Japan in 1972, it has slowly made its way into becoming what is now a famous beauty brand. They are mainly known for their beauty products that would help people “feel beautiful in their own skin.”

My Initial Impression
This was my first time using this product. Honestly speaking, I had very high expectations for this product because it was a little bit more expensive than many other cleansers and I knew that it contained high quality ingredients.
The first thing that I‘ve noticed about the product is how minimal and simple it is. I love how minimal the design and the explanation about “how to use the product” on the packaging is, but also how minimal the ingredients are, compared to many other products (ingredient list is not shown on the bottle; ingredient list shown on outside packaging).
Using the Product
According to the packaging, I noticed that it says to take 3 pumps then melt away the makeup well. After melting away the makeup, wash off with (lukewarm) water.
In the packaging, DHC does not mention how long you should cleanse your face for. Personally, when taking off makeup I like to follow the medical specialist’s recommendation when it comes to oil cleansing—to cleanse about 1-2 minutes so you can ensure that all the makeup, impurities and residue is well removed.
The Effectiveness of the Product
Oil cleansers are not just for taking off makeup and residue. Because I know that I have drier skin, it’s more nerve-wracking to try out new cleansers and find out what my skin would be like in the aftermath. I will be evaluating on two things: taking off makeup and the result of my skin condition, as DHC mentioned that this Deep Cleansing Oil is a strong cleanser, highly moisturizing and results in a smooth skin finish.
Taking Off Makeup
I don’t wear too much makeup usually, just very light makeup. To take off my light makeup, I’ve come to a conclusion that 1-2 pumps was enough for me.
This product took off my makeup like a miracle. From glittery eyeshadows to waterproof eyeliner—it takes off everything after 1-2 minutes of cleansing. If you look at the picture, I bet you can tell that the eyeliner came off very well.
I think with this product, double cleansing is not really necessary (especially myself with dry skin). However, if you would like to double cleanse, I think that it’s great for those who have oily skin.
The Result of My Skin Condition
With cleansers in general, I usually have problems with losing my natural oils after I cleanse my face. Although I have found cleansers in the past that do not strip off my natural oil, I can say for sure that this cleanser does just that. However, I still put on skincare products for hydration because obviously the cleanser is not enough to keep my skin moisturized.
Also, as DHC mentioned that its other feature is that after using this cleanser, the skin would result in a “smooth skin finish.” That is exactly what mine looked like afterwards which was amazing because I’m not what precisely helped to make my skin look like it.
The Pros and Cons
Personally, all the outcomes for me using this product were positive. However, there may be certain cons for some people.
Pros:
- Can use for whole body
- Rosemary Leaf Oil, Organic Olive Oil, Tocopherol Vitamin E
- Hydrates and Soften Skin
- Binds with sebum and impurities, and breaks down even stubborn waterproof mascara and eyeliner
- Cleanses and soften skin without any oily residue
- Provides antioxidant protection against free radicals
- Fragrance-free & Colorant-free
- Thin and light-weighted
- No stripping of natural oils
- For any skin types
- Great for sensitive and dry skin
Cons:
- Oil cleanser may not suit everyone (may cause breakout for some)
Final Thoughts
I’m in love with the oil cleanser. This oil cleanser may be a little bit more pricey than the others, but I can tell you that it’s 100% worth every penny. It’s definitely so much better than many of the cheaper cleansers out there because I’ve noticed how different my skin is—much cleaner, clearer and softer.
I feel like this cleanser is really something that I would keep using continuously and religiously. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who’s looking for a wonderful and well-trusted oil cleanser!
