My Initial Impression

Like every other time I see a Hada Labo product, it’s very nice and easy to look at because of how simple and aesthetic the design is. In addition to the design, like other Hada Labo Products, this Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion has an English translation to what the product is, which is “Premium Hydrating Lotion.”

I’ve noticed that the lotion itself is very different from the standard version, as this premium version is very thick in texture. It feels a little bit more sticky than the standard version because of how thick the texture is, as this product is more like the texture of beauty essence, rather than a toner.

Using the Product

On the packaging, it mentions that I should use a necessary amount. The words and graphics on the packaging, directly translating it from Japanese, explain how to put the lotion on the palm of your hands. Then put it on your face, gently securing the lotion onto your face with your hands.

This product gilded onto my skin very well, which makes it very easy for me to use. Although it does have a slight sticky finish, definitely much more than the standard lotion, it’s not sticky in a way that bothers me. Even though it may be a little bit thicker than the standard version, because this product is a lotion based on water, even if you build up the product, there’s no problem when it comes to layering this lotion.

For me, I like to use this lotion on my face as soon as I get out of the shower or wash my face, as my face is a little bit damp. I’ve noticed that the application is better on damper skin, especially if you do not live in a humid climate or environment, as it sticks to my skin much better.

The Effectiveness of the Product

This product suits my skin very well, especially during the winter time when my skin tends to become very dry. I love how this product almost “revives” my dry and sensitive skin, making it into a strong skin full of moisture.

Even though this product may be considered as a “toner,” it does such a great job of keeping my skin very moisturized to the extent that I don’t need to apply as much cream moisturizer as I used to to be able to keep my skin hydrated. This means that I can minimize the skin care products that I use on my skin, which is perfect because my skin tends to become stressed if I use too many different kinds of products.

Overall, my skin feels softer and softer everyday, to the point my skin would bounce back if I touch it. I feel like it’s much more efficient when applying additional skincare and makeup, as my skin is already very moisturized to start with, thanks to this lotion. Not to mention, my skin looks so glowy as well, and it’s perfect for those who are looking for something that would give them a dewy finish!

The Pros and Cons

Although to me, I didn’t find many cons about this product, there are some things that I found that may bother others.

Pros:

  • Extreme moisturizing power
  • Slight sticky finish (dewy effect)
  • Contains 7 types of hyaluronic acid (Hyaluronic Acid, Super Hyaluronic Acid, Nanodiode Hyaluronic Acid, Skin-Absorbing Hyaluronic Acid, 3D Hyaluronic Acid, Fermented Hyaluronic Acid, and Penetration Type Hyaluronic Acid)
  • Highly affordable
  • Scent-free
  • Oil-free
  • Alcohol-free
  • Color-free
  • Mild acidity
  • Great for those who especially have sensitive and dry skin
  • Better makeup and skincare application
  • Serum-like texture
  • Animal tested

Cons:

  • Some may not like the sticky finish
  • Some ingredients (such as niacinamide) may cause redness and irritation for some people
  • Animal tested
  • Can be messy to use

Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid: Premium Version vs Standard Version

Top off the bat, I can say that these two lotions are different. Although they may have the same smooth texture, they are very different in thickness, as the premium version of the lotion has more types of hyaluronic acid that makes the lotion much more dense and rich.

While the Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion (non-premium) version has four different types of hyaluronic acid, the Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Premium Lotion has seven different types of hyaluronic acid, the premium version having three more types of hyaluronic acid compared with the standard one. The three additional types of hyaluronic acid added into the premium version are 3D hyaluronic acid (sodium hyaluronic acid crosspolymer), skin-adsorbing hyaluronic acid (hyaluronic acid hydroxypropyltrimonium), and penetration type hyaluronic acid (sodium hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid).

The official explanation mentions that the premium version is rich (in terms of usability) and is a beauty essence like lotion. They also mention that it uses a penetration type hyaluronic acid (hydrolyzed sodium hyaluronate), which Hada Labo has incorporated into their products for the first time.

The Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Lotion is great for those who wants to try out the Hada Labo Gokujyun skincare series before buying other versions of it, people with oiler and/or thick skin, and young adults or teenagers that may not care so much about using products that are aimed for anti-aging effects. The Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid Premium Lotion on the other hand, is great for sensitive and dry skin, or those who want to use it for anti-aging purposes.

Although the premium version may have more hydrating agents, as well as ingredients that may help to be more effective than the standard version, there isn’t a major difference between the moisturization effectiveness between these two products. However, if you are feeling like your skin might want a little more hydration boost or would like for the ingredients to absorb in your skin a little bit better, the premium version may be something you can try out.

I would say that it is worth buying the premium version, especially if you live in a drier environment, rather than buying the normal version, especially if it’s less than three dollars difference in price and you can get a little bit more hydration boost. But again, if you have not tried Hada Labo Gokujyun series before and want to try it out, or feel like you don’t need so much moisturization it wouldn’t hurt at all to buy the standard lotion.

Final Thoughts

No lie, I am definitely getting this product again for sure! I’m glad to try this product and know that it matches my skin much better than the standard version, as my skin is very dry and sensitive normally. Putting on additional skincare and applying makeup has never been any better.

The Hada Labo Gokujyun Hyaluronic Acid is perfect for you if you want to boost up hydration or want to minimize the amount of skincare products you use. But this product is something that all people of all skin types can use, so why don’t you try it out?
